The Process of Applying Dental Veneers to Teeth
For people looking to revamp the look of their teeth so the next time they smile they are not ashamed of crooked, discolored or gapped teeth, dental veneers could be the solution. Although there are a few options for people needing to fix these issues, veneers have been a top choice by dentists and patients for years.
In this article, we are going to cover exactly what dental veneers are, as well as explaining how they are attached to the teeth and what a person can expect when they choose veneers as their method of getting a great-looking smile.
What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are a thin, shell-like device that is custom built for a patient. Typically, the person has crooked, gapped or discolored teeth that they are trying to cover up. Although dental veneers do not “fix” the problem, the option is great for covering the teeth and giving the patient a great-looking smile.
Dental veneers are durable and stain-resistant, which make them even more attractive to a person who is looking to get teeth they are proud to show off. Next, we will cover what has to be done before the veneers are put in place.
What type of preparation is required for dental veneers?
Before the dental veneers are placed on a patient's teeth, the dentist will have to ensure there are no issues that need to be repaired beforehand, such as cavities. Once this has been checked and everything looks good, a small amount of enamel will need to be removed. It is typically only 1/16 of an inch of enamel that will need to be removed.
An impression of the patient's teeth will be taken and sent to a lab. There, they will custom build the dental veneers specifically for the patient. During this process, the patient is typically given a set of temporary dental veneers to wear until the custom-made ones are received at the dentist's office.
How are the dental veneers put on the teeth?
The placement of the dental veneers on the teeth is called “bonding.” The bonding process is a way to cement the dental veneer on the patient's teeth and ensure that there is no movement. During this process, the dentist will also make sure that the veneers are correctly fitted and aligned properly with the rest of the teeth.
The goal of dental veneers is to give the person amazing-looking teeth, with the added bonus of no one else being able to tell that they got veneers in the first place.
