Most people that visit our dentist office do not have some rare disease that you can read about online. In fact, most of the time our patients come in with pretty routine issues. People come in for cleaning, to get their cavities filled, or to see why they are having a toothache. Standard toothaches are the number one reason why people visit us outside of regularly scheduled visits. This is not surprising when you consider that the toothache is the #2 most common reason why people miss work or school days in this country. Luckily for you every time you have a toothache it is not indicative of a terrible disease that will cause all of your teeth to fall out. Typically, it is due to an untreated cavity - something that we can treat.
Speaking of cavities, this is the second most common reason why people come to see us. A cavity is formed by the oral bacteria that exists naturally in the mouth. All people have this bacteria, and it is perfectly harmless under normal conditions. The challenge arises when you do not have good oral health habits and allow this bacteria to colonize a tooth. You can always tell a tooth that is under attack from the bacteria because it will form a thin layer of yellowish film, which is known as plaque. The bacteria feed off of the foods you eat, secreting acid in the process. This acid washes over the tooth and eventually causes the enamel to wear down and form a cavity. This is one of the many conditions we treat in our dental office.
It does not matter if you need a dental restoration like a crown or bridge or need to have your teeth whitened. We can help to improve both your oral health and the appearance of your smile. To learn more, read our blog and visit our dentist office for a consultation.
